This is one way to calculate front area in ParaView.
Make shure parallel projection is activated.

Edit -> View Settings...
Render View Options -> General -> Use Parallel Projection : checkbox true : Apply
Make shure you watch the front area.

Set view direction to +X
Select cells facing towards you.

Edit -> Select Cells On

Drag a rectangle around the object.
Extract selected cells.

Filters -> Data Analysis -> Extract Selection : Apply
Compress in view direction.

Filters -> Alphabetical -> Transform : set Scale X to 1e-5 : Apply
Cells are now flat and possible to calculate area on.

Selected cells are now flat.
Integrate cell variables.

Filters -> Data Analysis -> Integrate Variables : Apply
Switch to cell data.

Change from Point Data to Cell Data
Front area ready.

Now we have the projected area. The front area is 0.12 m2 for this diameter 0.4 m sphere
